Transformation
I share my musings on transformation by comparing that which happens to a caterpillar to that which spiritually happens to us

Using the butterfly as an analogy may be cliché, but it serves the purpose of comparing the wonder of transformation of a lowly insect to the spiritual evolution of a human. We find butterflies to be beautiful and yet they emerge from the stage of life that some people might call a bit icky or pesky—the caterpillar.
The caterpillar’s sole purpose is to eat and fatten until it is time to “die” as a caterpillar. It then wraps itself in a silken “coffin” and slowly turns into a goo of cells that get reorganized into wings, antennae, legs, proboscis, and the main parts of its body. I doubt if the caterpillar fears this process that ends their existence. Afterall the organism isn’t really dying; it is transforming.
However, many people fear their death for it seems like an eternal end. And in one sense it is the end, as is true for the caterpillar. But like the caterpillar, it is also a new beginning.
Humans aren’t meant to live forever in the material form with its inherent limitations. We could call our human form the “ugly duckling” stage. When our material forms dies, we are designed to transform somewhat similar to a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. The difference is we get to choose our transformation because it requires our conscious participation. And if we so choose, then we experience and pass through many life stages, each one more beautiful and freer than the previous. We have been called to become like God—perfect to our fullest capacity as He is perfect in His. The way of evolving perfection was prepared long before our universe or even our world existed. Jesus knew this truth and came to show us the way by his life and teachings. Paraphrased he said, “Know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
Eternal life is yours for the asking. All that is required is that you become a partner with God on this journey of transformation from a lowly human to a beautiful being of spiritual light. For those who love God, all things are possible.
